Here's the corner of MLK and Stark, facing toward the Willamette. Taking lots of photos lately, drawing scenes. Lots of random stuff on the street that you can't remember later. I think of the little note at the end of Craig Thompson's Carnet de Voyage, where he says he did all the drawings without a camera. Which means he was sitting in front of what he was drawing, at least for a preliminary sketch. Now, I actually like that book, which is basically about traveling, seeing cool stuff, getting laid, and being mopey about some chick back at home who dumped him. Everything but that last part was pretty cool.
What was my point? Oh yeah, the camera. I dunno. I think it's kinda stupid and awkward to insist on drawing everything as you sit in front of it. It gets cold and windy. You start staring at people going by. Weird people keep asking for change. It draws a lot of attention. I s'pose all of that might make you draw faster, though, so you can get the hell out and on to the next thing.
